Craft Hub – International Exhibition – CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - Ireland

This is a NATIONAL call for craft practitioners to participate in the Craft hub exhibition being organised by Carlow County Council, Ireland.

Craft Hub is a European project co-funded by Creative Europe focused on Craft in the context of cultural heritage and its continuing relevance in contemporary practice.
In 2023, Craft Hub will be celebrating and showcasing the skill and innovation of contemporary craft makers in an International Exhibition. The exhibition will commence in the beautiful city of Matera, Italy in April 2023, before proceeding to venues in Germany, Greece, Portugal, Ireland, Wales, with the final exhibition in Norway in October 2023.
The exhibition will feature work from across the whole spectrum of craft techniques and uses an anonymous selection process, giving emerging artists an equal opportunity to be selected alongside the established makers.
We are delighted to invite Craft Makers to submit an application to be a part of this exhibition.
In terms of submissions, we are seeking a broad range of pieces that link to the themes of experimentation, heritage, craft and sustainability.
Submissions are invited from all skilled makers; those with exhibition experience, and those quiet makers who are stepping into the limelight for the first time. Requirements are:
• working in clay, glass, metal, wood, textiles, paper, or other craft materials
• creating original work
• demonstrating accomplished skill and artistic merit
• work made in collaboration with other makers is welcome.
Makers are requested to submit already created pieces for this selection process. The initial exhibition will be held in Italy in April 2023. The selected pieces will be broken into two categories. Category 1 is a selection of Showcases which will go on International Tour across the EU partner countries. Category 2 is a selection of Showcase pieces which will be exhibited in one Country only.
Please note that pieces selected to the international exhibition will be required for the project from March 2023 to October 2023. The Craft Hub Project will reimburse the cost of transport for the piece to Italy for the initial exhibition and return of the piece from the final exhibition venue.
As part of the process selected makers will be required to:
(1) Create a profile on the Craft Hub Platform which features their piece.
(2) Promote the Craft Hub Exhibitions via social media and other formats.
A small range of selected craft professionals will be invited to travel as part of the exhibition to speak at the official launches of the various exhibitions.
An independent panel of craft experts will assess the submission. The panel is made up of representatives of the 9 Craft Hub partners information on which can be found on www.crafthub.eu
As part of the exhibition process a prize fund of €2,500 will be awarded with prizes presented at the Festival of Craft which is scheduled to take place in Wales in September 2022.
As part of the application process makers are asked for the following information:
• Each artist may submit up to three pieces of work.
• The artist’s name MUST NOT be included in the label of the image (or film), or appear in the image (or film) itself. Images containing the artist’s name will not be shown to the jury for consideration.
• All Images must be of media quality in a JPEG or Tiff format no smaller than 40 x 30 cm and at a resolution of 300 DPI.
• At least 3 high resolutiuon images (300dpi minimum) of each of the proposed exhibition pieces
• A short description of the work (100 words)
• A brief CV
• A description of maker’s craft practice - max 150 words
• Website address and social media links
Restrictions
There are no size restrictions, however, only plinth, wall, floor and hanging space will be offered.
The method of display, will be at the sole discretion of the Exhibition Curator.
Third Party Rights Artists must declare the names of any third parties who may have or have had intellectual property, moral or other rights in any part of the entry or its design or development. Artists must be able to demonstrate on demand any third party rights have been assigned, licensed or waived as appropriate, for relevant purposes.
Applications will be assessed using the following guidelines:
• Is there clear evidence that the items are made using learned and practised craft skills? (Items that are predominantly made using externally sourced parts will not be considered
• Is it clear that the work is made in a studio/workshop rather than a manufacturing facility?
Contractual Agreements
If your works is selected, a contract will be issued.
This will include permission to use the images/information supplied. Please ensure that you have the right to grant permission if successful.
If selected, applicants must agree to supply installation requirements, any further information requested for the purposes of promotion and agree to adhere to relevant deadlines for this information.
Delivery takes place during March.
